I started hiking the UHT on August 1, 2019. I left my truck on the western side of the trail, and started the hike on the eastern trailhead by McKee Draw, off highway 191. This is the full, 105-mile version of the trail. Getting from one side of the trail wasn’t too difficult, thanks to the guide I found here.
My track, as recorded by my InReach. The Uintas were gorgeous, especially the views from atop the passes. That being said, the mosquitoes were horrendous. August is typically a good time to hike the trail, as the snow is normally absent and the trail is somewhat dry. Apparently 2019 was a heavy snow year, and this meant that the trail was still wet and muddy even in August. I think this allowed the mosquitoes flourish. Note for next time: bring bug spray!
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the hike.
